~411 ON DOGS IN GENERAL
![]()
Dogs are much more than just pets. lots of dogs nowadays serve a purpose or role as more than an average companion. Dogs can act as a family member, a friend, an assistant for the disabled, a watch dog, an ideal representer for their specific breed in shows, a good canine citizen, a rescue dog, and etc ... There are more than 1000 different dog breeds and each breed had different care requirements. it's great to have a dog, but along with owning one come loads of responsibility, time, and care. so i advise before anyone gets a dog to please research a bit on dogs before you actually chose one.
tips for ppl wanting a new dog:
![]()
1. don't buy a dog for a present, for as nice of an act as it is, it isn't a very wise decision cuz even though the reciever may want a dog, you truly have no idea about their availability, financial status, and other concerns and preferrence around the matter of them owning a dog.
2. make sure you have the essential supplies before you buy a new dog: premium pet food such as eukanuba or iams, stainless steel non tip bowl, identification tags, a crate for traveling, stain remover for accidents in the house, brushes according to their fur type, dog shampoo, safe chew toys, paper towels & ziplockbags/plastic bags for cleanup, treats, deoderizing spray, flea and tick controls
3. you should make sure you safe proof your home inside and out depending on where your dog will stay. this will require further research as to what plants and chemicals to keep out of reach, but anything you personally deem hazardous should definitely be out of harms way. also make sure nothing that you don't want chewed on be off the floor or near reach for your new dog
4. choose a name for your dog that is preferably 2 syllables so that your dog wont get it confused with one syllable commands like sit and so that the name isn't too long for him/her to easily pick up on.
5. pick a dog that will fit your lifestyle. for example, if you dont have a lot of time to spare dont get a dog that will require a lot of excerscising.
6. introduce children and pets slowly and often so your dog wont be alarmed by the new presence and so that he/she will get used to the new individual. it may be a good idea to introduce them with a barrier between the dog and the new individual at first.
~411 ON DAHCSHUNDS
dahchsunds ... the infamous weiner dogs. the origins of dachshunds are from germany. in fact in german dachshund means badger dog. they were initially used to hunt for rodents and small animals that tend to live underground and the physical stature of the dachshund was a great advantage for digging into the ground and running the animal out of its burrow. after some time the dachshund was used in gaming and would hunt for underground animals such as rabbits for the mere sport of it. dachshunds have the specific feature of having long bodies, stubby legs, a long snout, a deep heavy chest, and a darling puppy like face that stays with them throughout their life. many dachshunds are known for being barkers and i want to warn others who are thinking of getting a doxie to beware they can be loud and at times obnoxious with their barking. In addition, if you are a gardener know that doxies will have the inclination to dig and dont be surprised if you see a hole here n there. Another thing about doxies is that they can tend to be difficult to train, but with time and patience it is possible. Lastly, i want to note that a dachshund has a high possibility of having a back problem due to the nature of their back and i do want to state that anyone who knows a doxie pls becareful when playing with them and even picking them up, they are wiggly dogs and can hurt their back in the process of doing anything to physically straining on their back. SO, that also means don't tease a doxie with a toy by holding it up in the air or motioning to a doxie to get down or up a high couch, bed, or chair, and also dont allow a doxie to go up a flight of stairs or rush it down a few stairs. In closing, I dont want anyone to feel as though doxies aren't great dogs, dont get me wrong, cuz the previous setbacks can of course all be minimized or trained to actually have them keep from doing. Cuz my doxie pup can be stubborn at times, but overall she is a great companion, fun to be with, she has a great sense of awareness and is loving when you show her love and if i were to suggest on getting a dog i would personally say "hey get a doxie"; for the experience i've had with her is unlike any other dog i've had in the past.
~DOG PARKS IN DAYGO
![]()
balboa dog park, coronado dog park, harry griffin dog park, oceanbeach dog park, shelter island allows dogs and has cleanup baggies available for the public.
(address' will be added later)
*there are lots of public parks that dont specify if dogs are allowed, but as long as you pick up after your dog and make sure he/she is amiable/friendly you should be alright
*reminder: if you dont pick up after your dog at a specified DOG parks and the neigboring residents start to complain about how unsanitary the park is, the city will be forced to shut down the park, so pls even if the remains aren't yours be a good samaritan and pick it up anyways.

~ABOUT PET STORES & ADOPTION CENTERS
![]()
*i always suggest that you call the pet store for the availability of the item you are looking for to save you gas and time and if you want you could even compare prices by calling several stores about your item at hand
1.Petsmart: a great store to buy pet supplies and various pets. they also have pet hotels, some locations have a veterinary clinic in the store, they have training sessions as inside, and have lists of pets available for adoption. Their store is number one on my list on the basis of quality, selection, and a kind & informative staff ... the only downside is they tend to be a tad pricy at times.
2. walmart: if you're going for cheaper prices i'm all for walmart for they have fairly cheap prices and their items are decent. right now they have these cute $3 simple shirts of all sizes available. and the nontip stainless steel bowls i found are pretty cheap here.
3. Petco: Pretty good supply, selection, and kind staff. they also have a list of available pets to adopt here
4. there are many dog supply warehouse's spaced out around san diego and if you find/know of one you're in luck they have great prices and presently i don't have a specific location on any so if you can e-mail me n let me know where some are.
5. mike's aquarium: there are mostly fish for sale here and they have small animals for sale here as well. they have a groomer and they have a fairly good selection on items. in addition, the prices are pretty decent. they do allow dogs to walk around under tight control. the only setback is the store is tightly spaced together.
